The Broo Nooz!
In case you didn't see yours truly on channel 18, or you didn't hear me on the radio....folks, I'm very pleased to announce that the Pearl Street Brewery has put our little town on the map! That, is the WORLD MAP! We brew three beers which were chosen as Medal winners in The 2003 World Beer Championships!!!

Old Skeezer Barleywine: Gold Metal, Barleywine
"Chestnut-red hue. Deep malty aromas have a complex vinous and chocolatey quality that follow through on chewy, full-bodied palate with complex malty flavors that give way to assertive spicy hops on the finish."

Pearl Street Pale Ale: Silver Metal, American Pale Ales
"Orange-gold hue. Fragrant grapefruit zest aromas follow through on a smooth dry malty palate that finishes with tangy hop notes."

In addition to these fine awards from the World Beer Championships that are recognized world-wide, we have also been given some local recognition:
The Barley wine was also given second place out of about 80 beers in the peoples choice awards given out during City Brewery's "Between the Bluffs" brewfest last month. Thanks, Randy.

And if that wasn't enough good news for one sitting, take a deep breath. Calm down a little. I've got more.

ON TAP!
The crew here at PSB has been hard at work. Currently on tap are Pale Ale, Evil Doppleganger, American Amber, Organic Rolled Oat Stout, Morning Glory Hemp Porter, and of course Downtown Brown. Up and coming is our very own "el Heffe" Bavarian style hefe-weizen wheat beer. That should be up and on tap in the next three weeks. For all your Summer get-togethers, Downtown Brown will be available at Quillin's on campus. Our brews will also be on tap at some new pubs in town. A hoppy little limerick...(to be read aloud)

A Hoppy Man (by Bill Mendyka)
At one time I made a fine brew,
that was crafted with hops that I grew.
The taste was intense,
with a strong resin sense,
and malt flavor pervading all through.
Can't wait 'til next hop crop is due,
so another new potion I'll stew,
that will match or exceed,
all the flavors, indeed,
that a Hophead expects in his brew.

On to other somewhat important news...
That's right people. If you spent two bucks on a pint of beer at your local tavern, the government gets 88 cents of it. Beer is even taxed higher than the "luxury" tax, or "capital gains" taxes. Is beer a luxury? Is beer our god-given right? Grrr. Click here for the scoop.

That's gonna be it for this edition of Broo Nooz. All this beer talk is making me very thirsty. Time to step out to the pub for a cool one.
See you there!!
